Robert Poles Sr.

Caledonia: Robert passed into the arms of our loving Lord and Savior on April 18, 2020, at the age of 80. He has been looking forward to being with Margaret, his wife of 57 years, since May of 2017 when she left to be with the Lord.
Robert believed that God and family are the most valued in one’s life. He is predeceased by his sister Barbara (Shelton) Poles, his brothers John Poles Jr., Albert Poles, and Charles Poles. He was the patriarch of a large family; Robert Poles Jr., Ronald (Terri) Poles, Laurie Poles, Roland (Christine) Poles, LoraLynn Poles-Harrison, DorothyLynn (Cedric Bowen) Poles; 18 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, sister Mildred (Robert) Glover, and several nieces and nephews.
Robert served in the United States Army, 82nd Airborne Division and was honorably discharged after four years of service. His passions throughout life were church, spending time with family, making lawn furniture, working on small engines, hunting and fishing with his friends and family.
Robert had a personal relationship with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and often greeted everyone with a “Praise the Lord” to let them know that they were considered a friend and valued as a child of God. His mission in life was serving his church as a Deacon for over forty years, including his last assignment of fifteen years supporting his son’s ministry at the Henrietta Church of the First Born.
His faith led him into sowing into his community of Caledonia by volunteering as a coach with little league baseball, girls’ softball, and Pop Warner football; shaping the lives of young people was something he loved to do. In self-reflection, he believed that from his service of giving back to his community, he reaped the blessing of watching his children and grandchildren play and dominate in a variety of sports. His other prize pastimes were listening to his granddaughters sing and learning for the first time that the family had its first, lawyer, author, Superbowl winner and military soldier.
From his kids: “Dad you have fought the good fight, you have finished the race, and you have remained faithful, and now your prize awaits you, the crown of righteousness.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8 We love you, but we know that God loves you best. We will miss you and we will see you and Mom again, enjoy paradise!
A date will be set in the future and notifications will be sent out to inform everyone of the Celebration of Life Gathering at Henrietta Church of the First Born. Flowers, cards can be sent to 294 Leicester St, Caledonia, NY 14423. At Robert’s request, monetary donations can be mailed to the Henrietta Church of First Born, c/o Food Cupboard, at P.O. Box 267, W. Henrietta, NY 14586.

Bob and I managed a Little League Team in Caledonia several years ago. He was a gentle person, always great with kids, fun to be around, generated many great ideas. We had great young Ball Players. We insisted the young players call us by Mister. I got Red Wing tickets from Eastman Kodak and we would take our team and most of the other teams to the game. There isn't another person like Mr. Poles. We also had his sons, Junior, Ronald on our team. I will miss him. God Bless my friend Mr. Poles, his family and all the friends we developed thru our Twins Team.

I wanted to extend my sympathy today to you and to all whose lives were touched by Robert. I was his nurse in the operating room for his last surgery at Highland. I walk with Jesus every day and I am often able to sense when I am caring for a patient who also loves the Lord. That was true when I met Robert and when he said "praise the Lord" I of course responded !! There is peace in knowing he is now resting in the arms of our Savior. May you all feel God's love and grace in the days ahead. Sandy RNCNOR

Mr. Poles - our loss is heaven's gain. As a young boy I spent a lot of time with Ronnie at his house - my strongest memory of the their house was a sign in the living room that said, "The family that prays together, stays together!" Anybody that knew The Poles family knows that they always stayed together. Robert and Margaret...always Mr. & Mrs Poles to me...were led by their faith and you knew it. Mr. Poles taught me how to fish, taught me how to hunt pheasant, taught me how to be respectful. Some of my fondest memories were of him as our Pop Warner football coach. He was tireless and was always encouraging to us. Win or lose, we had a lot of fun! I can still see him...crouched down with his feet spread out and he called us one by one...everyone on the run and launch ourselves in the air to practice cross body blocks. He would catch you and toss you aside with a 'Good job!' and then catch the next kid. I'm smiling and laughing about it right now...Thank you, Mr. Poles!
My family in Florida will continue to lift up the Poles Family in prayer - may God's loving grace and God's peace be upon us all...xoxo
