John Allen Hanley
Hanley, John Allen

The son of William James Hanley and Ella Marie (Devereaux) Hanley, Mr. Hanley was born at the family home on 4 Chestnut Street, now called Triangle Place in Baldwinsville. After retiring from the Univeristy of Rochester Medical Center as a technologist in the Department of Neurology, he worked for 11 seasons at the Genesee County Village, a 19th Century Village and Museum near Mumford.
Mr. Hanley enjoyed classical music, baking, photograhpy, maintaining bluebird nesting boxes in a local park and the use of the nearby library. He avoided intrusive electronic gadgetry. A 1955 graduate of Baldwinsville High School, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer escort USS Kirkpatrick. He attended LeMoyne College, Syracuse and graduated with a bachelor’s degree. Mr. Hanley served in the Peace Corps in Nigeria as a teacher of physics and math from 1967-1969.
Predeceased by brother, James and sister, Marguaret Rose, he is survived by brothers, William Hanley of Nedrow, NY and Francis Hanley of Columbia, PA; sisters, Mary Herndon of San Miguel, Mexico and Eleanor Hanley of Friendswood, TX and many nieces and nephews. A private interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Baldwinsville, NY.
