Spath, Melissa (Powers)
Caledonia/LeRoy: On May 22, 2016 at age 43. Predeceased by her brother, Jerry Powers and grandmother, Juanita Hughes. She is survived by her husband, Michael; children, Shawn Matthews, Brittany Spath, Margaret Matthews, Daniel Matthews and Michael Spath III; her parents, Phyllis and Jerry Powers; her brother, Brian (Kari) Powers; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Edward and Starlene VanDame; many nieces.

Melissa Spath's accomplishments documented or otherwise are too numerous to list, but to shed some light on the amazing person that she was here are a few. She had to step up as a full blown adult before any one should ever have to, but even before that she was an excellent student and star athlete. Despite having a child along the way she managed to finish high school with flying colors. Following graduation she enrolled at SUNY Brockport. She graduated from SUNY Brockport with a Bachelor's in Child Psychology and a BSN, all while having another two children, working full time and earning her certification as an EMT. She took her first nursing job at Strong Memorial Hospital where she received a Nurse of the Year award. Even that wasn't enough for her selfless nature. She also worked at Mercy Flight as a flight nurse at the same time continuing to save lives. Melissa went on to teach various nursing courses at both MCC and BOCES, making a tremendous impact on the lives of her students. She was a Director of Nursing at multiple skilled nursing facilities throughout the state. You would be hard pressed to find anyone who worked as many hours as she did, all while still raising a family who helped to illustrate her astounding character. Melissa Spath saved, healed, helped and touched the lives of an unbelievable amount of people. She was loved and will be missed. Her legacy lives on in all of the people and she knew and who knew her.

Friends may call Thursday 7-9 PM and Friday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Alhart Funeral Home, 3068 W. Main St., Caledonia. Her Funeral Mass will be held Saturday 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 44 Lake St., LeRoy. Interment, St. Francis Cemetery, LeRoy.
