Robert James "Rock" Rothrock Obituary (1932

Robert James Rothrock, Sr. (Rock), age 89, passed away September 14, 2021 in Canandaigua, NY after a brief illness. He was born March 2, 1932 in Dansville, NY to James Wesley and Elnora (Sattora) Rothrock and grew up in Avon, NY. On November 15, 1952 he married Doris M (McKay) and they settled in Caledonia, NY. In February 1953 he was drafted into the Army and shipped overseas to fight in the Korean Conflict. He received his Honorable discharge on December 1, 1954. Rock loved people and having a good time. Whether it was going to Dinner at the Village Inn or Iroquois Hotel with friends or "Hamming" it up in the Caledonia Variety Show, Rock could always be found in the middle of the fun! The Variety Show after parties at Jim and Doris' house were enjoyed by many cast members. Jim was a New York State Champion Trap Shooter. In his retirement years he took up Golf and even made a hole in one! He loved to spend hours taking care of his yard and the many varieties of roses that adorned his walks and yard. He enjoyed wood working and was very proud of the custom wall clocks he built, all with intricately detailed scroll work that are still enjoyed by friends and family today. He worked as a big truck mechanic for George Taylor Trucking before securing a position with Eastman Kodak Company where he worked for twenty five plus years. He was active in his community serving as a Deacon for the First Presbyterian Church, a Volunteer Fireman with The Caledonia Fire Department where he loved running the "Over/Under" game at the Fireman's Carnival. He was a volunteer Medic with the Caledonia Ambulance. He also was an Officer for the Caledonia Police Department. He is predeceased by his parents and his wife (of 68 years) Doris. He is survived by his children Sam Rothrock (Julie Robedee), Mark (Lisa) Rothrock and Deb (Jim) Rosati, grandchildren Lindsey (Chase) Rothrock-Holcomb, Lauren (Corey) Timblin, Adam (Bobbi) Brennan, Matt (Merridith) Brennan, Cheryl (Adam) Purkat, James (Megan) Rosati, Matthew (Laura) Rosati, Kelley Rosati (Fiance' Landis Clement), great grandchildren Landon Holcomb, Carter Brennan, Danica, Jeremy & Zachary Purkat, Mae and Jimmy Rosati, twins Charlotte & Giada Rosati and Harrison Rosati. Noah Allen Timblin is due in November. Friends and family may call Friday September 24, 2021 from 4-7 pm at Alhart Funeral Home, 3068 West Main Street, Caledonia, NY. (Full capacity, masks not required). Funeral service Saturday, September 25, 2021, 2 pm First Presbyterian Church 3080 Main Street, Caledonia, NY 14423. Military burial Mumford Cemetery immediately following church service. In Lieu of Flowers memorials may be made in his honor to Lollypop Farm or a charity of your choice.
