Robert A. Martin

–

Caledonia, New York

Caledonia/Silver Lake: May 18, 2024.

Robert is predeceased by parents, Doris and Eddie Martin, brother Thomas Martin and wife Deborah J. Martin. He is survived by his brother David Martin; children Amie (Chris Bishop) Starr, Suzanne (George) Ayres, Jacob (Brittney) Starr. Six grandchildren; Jillian, George, Brady, Ava, Emmalie and Lillyenne.

Bob, as he was known to many, graduated from Caledonia Mumford High School in 1967 and immediately began Army active duty (1968-1971), served in Vietnam, and earned many medals of accomplishments, including Army Accommodation Medal, National Defense Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.

Bob had a passion to "build" which began prior to even graduating high school. While employed part time (1965-1978) as a construction foreman he excelled at advanced carpentry and excavating. Beginning as Martin Real estate (1973) Bob owned/managed residential and commercial properties. His natural leadership skills led to not only opening Martin Liquor Store but also purchasing and self-directing Martin Construction (1978-1993), formerly known as Margiotta Construction Company. Bob expanded this company to include home renovation projects as well as new- builds. In 1988 he married Deb (and her 3 kids), and within a few years began to build their family home in Avon. Following his career in construction, he joined Nothnagle Realtors (1993) as a sales agent then soon became an Associate Broker assisting many downsizing families and first-time home buyers. Bob drove school bus for the district of Caledonia for a short time until he became Program Director for Genesee Valley Rural Preservation Council, Inc. (GVRPC1997). This position was perfect as he was able to plan, construct, maintain, improve, preserve, repair, and upgrade housing related facilities and services for elderly persons, disabled persons, and persons of low or moderate income. Bob's focus on housing preservation and community renewal activities led to successful neighborhood redevelopment throughout surrounding Livingston, Wyoming, Genesee and Chemung counties.

Bob has always been largely involved in the community as a member of the Livingston County Community Initiatives Council, NYS Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, Vice President, and President of Genesee Valley Board of Realtors, served on the vestry of St. Andrews, Silver Springs Planning Board as well as a long-time member of The Silver Lake Association.

Bob retired from GVRPC in 2019 and resided in the beautiful Silver Lake home that him and Deb (and family) built together. He always kept busy, whether it was mowing lawns, helping friends, building furniture for grand kids; he always had a project going. He took great pride in his landscaping and always enjoyed boat rides around the lake. If something needed repaired, we called Bob. If it was broken, we called Bob. If we had ideas, we would call Bob. A loving brother, husband, father, friend, godfather, and deeply adored Grandpa/Papa; his legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone he interacted with. May you all find peace in the memories and moments you shared together.
