Mumford-Patricia (Pat) Gores, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, just days before what would have been her 76th birthday. Born on June 25, 1950, in Brooklyn, New York, Pat — known warmly to her grandchildren as “GMA” — lived a life defined by her love of family, her generosity, and the beauty she created with her hands.
Pat McGarrigle grew up in Brooklyn before finding her way north to Rochester, New York, in 1972, where she began building a life and family. She married James P. Crosby, and together they welcomed two daughters, Kara and Kelly. When tragedy took Jim from the family too soon, Pat faced her loss with strength that would carry her through the chapters ahead. In time, she married Peter Gores, who not only took Pat’s hand in marriage but welcomed Kara and Kelly as his own. Together, Peter and Pat were blessed with a third daughter, Anne.
From 1994 to 2005, the family called Lowville, New York, home, where Pat and Peter worked side by side on the railroad. In 2005, they settled in Mumford, New York, where Pat and Peter remained until her passing.
As a young woman, Pat worked on Wall Street in New York City. After moving to Rochester, she devoted herself to raising her daughters and volunteering at their Catholic schools. When the girls were older, she returned to the workforce as a bookkeeper and assistant to the general manager for Genesee Valley Transit Railroad and the Adirondack Scenic Railroad before retiring in 2015.
Pat was a gifted creator — quilting, crafting, and sewing were her hallmarks, and always remembered birthdays, holidays, milestones, and just about every occasion in between. Her quilts were legendary in the family: each time a family member married, a handmade quilt was her gift — a labor of love stitched with care and intention. When any child or grandchild needed her, GMA answered the call.
Pat was a lifelong member of the Catholic faith, including St. Columba Church in Caledonia, where she was known for her strict adherence to punctuality in contrast to Peter’s consistent tardiness. She will be deeply missed and her faith and love will live on in all who knew her.
She is survived by, her loving husband, Peter Gores, of Mumford, New York; her three daughters and their families: Kara Crosby Frisa (Larry), and their sons James, Matthew (Danielle), and Jackson; Kelly Crosby (Ian), and their children Ryan, Amanda, and Joshua; and Anne Gores Funderburke (Adam), and their children Max and Ashlyn; her siblings and in-laws: Bill McGarrigle, Mary (Frank) Cannistra, Rich (Patricia) McGarrigle, Terry McGarrigle, Monica (Michael) Quagiatta, Jane Casper, Don (Marilyn) Crosby; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, and community members whose lives she touched.
Predeceased by James Crosby, William and Mary McGarrigle, John and Nora Crosby, Charles and Evelyn Gores, Nancy Tucker and Richard Casper.
Patricia’s quilts will warm the homes of those she loved long after she is gone — a fitting legacy for a woman who spent her life wrapping her family in care. Her memory is a blessing, and her presence will be deeply missed.
Family and friends may call on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 4-7pm, at Alhart Funeral Home, 3068 Main Street, Caledonia.
