Michael Burnside

Michael Burnside of Mumford, New York passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer on July 14, 2026. Born on July 24, 1967, in Rochester, New York, he proudly served as a volunteer fireman for over 40 years in the Caledonia and Mumford Fire Departments. During his time with the Caledonia Fire Department he was Chief once and was Chief twice for the Mumford Fire Department.

Michael started his career at the Caledonia Police Department and moved on to the Monroe County Sheriff's Department where he served for twenty years as a Road Patrol Officer, Technician, and ended as a Fire Investigator. In his retirement he served as a code enforcer for the Village of Caledonia and a School Resource Officer for the Caledonia-Mumford Central School District.

Michael is survived by his wife of 35 years Eileen (Zanett) Burnside, his children Samantha (Sean) Ezzell, Austin Burnside, and his brother Steve Burnside. His beloved Grandchildren Lilah and Rowan Ezzell. He is predeceased by his mother, Virginia Burnside and father, Neil Burnside.

Michael's Funeral Service will be held on July 25, 2026 starting at 3:00pm at the Genesee Country Village and Museum, located at 1410 Flint Hill Road, Mumford, NY. In Lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Michael's memory to the Mumford Fire Dept 1013 Main St. Mumford NY 14511 and/or Caledonia Fire Departments. P.O.
