On Thursday, September 25th, the world lost a truly beautiful person, inside and out. Laura Canne ~ wife, mother, mother in law, Grandma/Mema, daughter, sister, sister in law, cousin, friend, Aunt, tutor… ~ passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by love.
Laura fought stage 4 metastatic breast cancer for the better part of 20 years. Over and over she battled and won but even the strongest of us get tired. In true Laura fashion she left this world in epic style, which of course included a private jet from Scotland, and on her own terms. In these times of hate, violence, and intolerance the loss of Laura’s fierce spirit, heart of gold, and boundless compassion is all the more profound.
Laura was a proud graduate of Bishop Kearney High School - Class of 1979. She went on to graduate early from SUNY Geneseo with a Bachelor of Arts degree and later a Master’s degree in Public Administration.
Laura is predeceased by her father, Jarl Hasby.
She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Steven Canne, her daughters Christina (RJ) Kantowski, Michelle (Tommie) Sherwood, Karen Canne, Jon (Lisa) Marozzi; grandchildren Hunter, Patrik, Christian, Alec, Adelynn, Vinny, Adyson, Charlotte, Morgan, and Lucas; siblings Karen (Larry) Epstein, Peter (Mari) Hasby, and Joan (Tim) Maher; many treasured nieces and nephews and honorary children and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Focus on the Children P.O. Box 31 Caledonia NY 14423 or Notre Dame Learning Center 71 Parkway, Rochester, NY 14608 in her honor, both organizations Laura worked for and cared deeply about.
A celebration of life is currently planned for Saturday, October 11th at the EquiCenter in 3247 Rush Mendon Rd, Honeoye Falls, NY from 2-5pm. A private internment to follow at a later date.
