Gordon A. Hamond (82) of Scottsville passed away on January 18, 2024. Gordon was born at
home on the family farm in Harford Mills, NY in 1941. When he was a week old, they took him to
the local store to have him weighed.
He grew up working on the farm and for several local farms, where he learned the value of hard
work and carpentry skills, building barns. He worked for a short time at Smith Corona, before
being laid off, and decided to join the US Navy. He met his future wife through his sister, Nita.
After serving in the Navy, they married and moved to Rochester, where there were more job
opportunities. In Rochester, he worked as a hardwood floor installer, for Rochester Drilling
Company, Chase Pitkin and Wegmans Warehouse where he retired after 27 years of service.
After living in Rochester, they moved to the village of Scottsville in 1977, to raise their family.
Gordon continued to reside in Scottsville for 47 years.
Gordon was a friend to all. His Naval reporting officer said "his greatest attribute was his ability
to get along with anyone, at any time and boost morale." If you knew Gordy, you saw the
sparkle in his eyes and his happy go lucky disposition. He was an exemplary friend, neighbor,
brother, father, and husband. His generosity, wisdom, and passion for life made him a favorite to
all.
Gordon was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Burch Hammond and his loving wife of 38
years, Gwendolyn.

grandchildren; Joshua Roides, Kayla Roides, Marisa Roides, Kelsey Curtis, and Joslyn Curtis,
