Elizabeth Gilbert

Elizabeth Jean Gilbert passed away peacefully September 4 at her home in Rochester in the presence of her loved ones, at age 70, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was affectionately known to friends, family and coworkers as Betsy.

Her long career as a librarian began in Richardson, Texas. Returning to her home in the Rochester region, she worked at Gates Public Library and Rochester Central Library before serving as assistant director at the Rochester Regional Library Council. She retired from Fairport Public Library where she had served as director for twenty years.

She is predeceased by her parents Walter and Jean Gilbert and her brother Robert Gilbert. She is survived by her life partner Steven Huff; her sister Judith Randall (Larry Buczkowski); her nieces Erika Randall (Travis Brocklebank), Sarah (Matthew) Weaver, Meghan (Michael) Poole and Katelynn Higgins ; nephew Adam (Karly) Randall; great nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Alhart Funeral Home, 3068 Main Street, Caledonia, New York from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday September 10th. Her mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Columba, St. Martin de Porres Parish 198 North Street, Caledonia, on Friday September 11, 2026 at 10 AM. Interment to Follow St. Columba Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Caledonia Public Library 3108 Main St, Caledonia, NY 14423 or to the Fairport Public Library 1 Fairport Village Landing Fairport, NY 14450
