Caledonia, New York
York- Doris M. Barefoot (Dorie) passed suddenly and peacefully on July 31, 2025 at the
age of 82, and is now joyfully reunited with her beloved David, whom she married on her
18th birthday.
Dorie was born on August 6, 1942 in Bath, New York to William and Mildred
Fairfield. Along with her husband and parents, Dorie is predeceased by her sister Maxine
Moses, brother Bob Fairfield, brother-in-law Bill Gunther, her father and mother-in-law
Jim & Evelyn Barefoot, and David’s siblings; Murrelle Bishop, Ruth Keller, Jon Barefoot
and Karen Barefoot Cwiklinski and husband Fred.
As a devoted wife, mother grandmother and friend to many, Dorie’s humble
beginnings led the way for her to offer compassion and care for several family members,
friends, and neighbors in need. Always, the first to lend a hand, her willingness and
generosity was truly a gift she enjoyed sharing with others.
As a long time, employee of Tom Wahl’s, her managerial skills coupled with her
strong work ethic were second to none. It was there that she earned the respect of many
and forged wonderful lasting friendships while also managing the families’ mobile home
park.
Raising three rambunctious boys, Dorie quickly learned first hand how to be a
strict disciplinarian. Never one to shy away from bringing out the bread board if the
situation called for it…and it did, several times! As strong and tough as she was, it was
her love of family and her faith in Christ that sustained her in the darkest of times.
Dorie was greatly loved and will be missed dearly by her sons and daughter-in-
law’s; Dale & Connie, Dan & Patti, Dennis & Sally. She adored her 5 grandsons and
only granddaughter; Jim Barefoot, Ben (Sara) Barefoot, Jaymeson (Samantha) Barefoot
& Abby (Steve) Geer, Jonathan (Emily) & Caleb (Erinn) Barefoot. Dorie leaves a legacy
of love and kindness that will live on in her cherished great grandchildren; Emma
Barefoot, Logan & Levi Barefoot, Maxwell Geer, Violet & Madilyn Barefoot along with
baby boy Geer due in Nov.
Also survived by her sister Ella Gunther, whom she shared a very special bond
with, sister-in-law Sally Fairfield, brother-in-law Sidney (Donna) Barefoot, sister-in-law
Liz Barefoot, as well as many loving and thoughtful nieces and nephews that have fond
memories of their Aunt Dorie.
