Scottsville, New York
Agnes Mary Forsyth (Ryan), of Scottsville, NY, passed away on September 3, 2026, at the age of 95. Her faith, her family, and the life she shared with her husband of 72 years were what mattered most to her.
Agnes was born and raised in Spencerport, NY, the daughter of Joseph and Agnes Ryan. After marrying Jack Forsyth, the two made their home in Scottsville, where they spent most of their married life together. They recently celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary—a remarkable life together built around family, love and laughter.
And family was everything to Agnes. She spent many years raising their eight children and, before long, moved happily into the role of spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Agnes loved her family; no one ever doubted that. Her warmth, great sense of humor, and competitive spirit were qualities her family and friends knew well and loved.
Agnes was happiest when she was surrounded by the people she loved. Over the years, she enjoyed golfing with her sisters and daughters, bowling league, exercise class, Bridge Club, traveling with her sisters and daughters, and countless card and board games with her children and grandchildren. She especially loved Canasta and Crazy Eights, along with Backgammon and Chinese Checkers—and if there was a game being played, Agnes was there to win.
She enjoyed snowmobiling, playing golf, cooking and baking, Friday night fish fries, annual trips to the casino to hit the nickel machines, playing card games with her friends, walking the beach, and simply sitting in the sun.
Some of the simplest family traditions became lasting memories. Sundays started with going to church, then to playing baseball in the backyard, enjoying a pot roast late lunch, and piling the family into the car to see one of Jack's excavating jobs. Years later, Agnes was just as happy sitting in her backyard watching her family play kickball.
Agnes was also a lifelong sports fan. For years, she could be found cheering on her children and grandchildren from the sidelines, and later enjoyed watching the Yankees, and the Buffalo Bills. She was never shy about cheering for her team or offering a little feedback.
Agnes is survived by her loving husband, Jack Forsyth; her children, Thomas (Nancy) Forsyth, Marsha (Gerald) Forsyth, Donna (Moira Young) Forsyth, Terry (Mike) Darlak, Lynne (Gregg) Motta, Todd (Holly) Forsyth, Patricia (Donald)Wade, and Joanne (Mike) Funk. She was predeceased by her son, Gerald Forsyth. Also survived by her grandchildren, Chris Forsyth, Katie (Ryan) Gaiek, Michelle (John) Grabowski, Seth (Emily) Forsyth, Shelly (John) Fox, Jennifer (Seth) Jones, Jeremy (Ashley) Forsyth, Steven (Sara) Mofield, Michelle (Thomas) Whitmarsh, Benjamin, Isabela and Eleanor Motta, Jack and Avery Forsyth, Emily, Hannah, Kyle and Justin (Abby) Wade, and Jacqueline and Audriana Funk. She is also survived by 22 great-grandchildren; her sister, Jean (Thomas) Brook; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She is predeceased by her brothers, Joseph (Marion) Ryan, James (Marion) Ryan, Richard (Marjorie) Ryan, David (Phyllis) Ryan, and Jack (Bernice) Ryan; and her sisters, Rita (James) Ridley, Margaret (Walter) Sherwood, Mary (Jack) Uebelacker, and Ellen (Richard) Dinehart.
In her later years, Agnes developed a very special relationship with her longtime caregiver, Molly Coyle, whose companionship and care meant a great deal to her and to her family. Her family is also deeply grateful to the staff at LeRoy Village Green for the wonderful care, attention, and affection they gave Agnes.
Family and friends are invited to attend Agnes’s Funeral Mass on September 9th, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy, located at 44 Lake Street, LeRoy, NY 14482. Interment will be held at St. Columba Cemetery.
