Obituary for Patricia Elizabeth Greenlea (Simms)
Patricia Elizabeth Greenlea was born August 8th 1938, in Caledonia NY. She departed this life on December 26, 2022, in New Castle, Delaware. Patricia, affectionately known as “Patty” or Aunt Patty graduated from Caledonia- Mumford Central School in June of 1956. In July of 1956, she married the love of her life, Warren Greenlea whereby they were married for 52 years and had 1 son, Cordie. Patricia faced many health issues throughout her lifetime but always battled and exhibited extreme levels of faith. She was known for her quiet demeanor along with her strength and determination to overcome anything that was thrown her way. In spite of her health issues, Patty loved to eat. She liked to bake desserts from scratch, go to her family reunions and she loved to attend a good party.
Patricia was employed by Rochester Telephone for a number of years. She also served as the secretary of Second Baptist Church of Mumford, NY for 30 years. She also served as a Teacher’s Assistant with BOCES of Livingston County and Genesee County. She enjoyed working with kids who experienced a variety of challenges.
Patricia was actively involved in the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Estella Chapter No. 7 PHA. She served as the Worthy Matron from 1992-1993. She served as the Most Ancient Matron of the Zipporah Court #14, Heroines of Jericho. She also served as the Loyal Lady Ruler of the Bison Assembly #48 of the Golden Circle. Finally, she was appointed by The Grand Chapter as the District Gran Matron with the Eastern Star. Her final appointment was Grand Warder.
Those who knew Patty saw that she was a busy lady. She was involved in missions work for her church and always made sure that others were busy with her. She actively taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, was involved with the Youth Group, the Choir and helped establish the Soup Kitchen at Second Baptist Church. She loved to garden and grow herbs naturally. She was an avid reader who constantly went through books on a weekly basis. She also liked to knit and sew and was one of the few people that still liked to iron her sheets.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents. Stanley and Elizabeth Simms. Husband Warren Greenlea. Sister Marva Simms, Brothers Thomas Simms and Paul Simms. She is survived by her son Cordie (Lesha) Greenlea. Three granddaughters, Tierra, Briana and Courtney. Sisters: Jacqueline Redman and Judith Simms. Brothers: Gerald Simms and Lewis Simms. Close cousins Joyce Miles and Earletta Waters. She also leaves behind her Aunt Alice Duncan and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and two great-great nieces and nephews, as well as a host of cousins, and her Delaware Family. She will be laid to rest at the Mumford Rural Cemetery. Patty will be greatly missed as she was a dedicated, committed member and Leader of our family who always kept everyone busy and working. May she rest in peace and her memory always be cherished.
Family and Friends may call Friday 4-7 PM at the Alhart Funeral Home 3068 W. Main St. Caledonia. Her Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday at the Second Baptist Church 957 George St. Mumford. Interment: Mumford Rural Cemetery.
