Obituary for Doris Marie "Diddo" Rothrock (McKay)

Doris Marie Rothrock (Diddo), age 87, passed away April 11, 2021 after a long, courageous battle with COPD. She was born January 27, 1934 in Montrose, CO to Charles and Dola (Cooper) McKay and grew up in Caledonia, NY.

Doris loved people. Her door was always open with the coffee pot on. It didn’t matter what time it was, you were always welcome. She had a passion for sewing and knitting as well as decorating her front window for holidays year round. Her most favorite, was Winnie the Pooh and friends for Christmas. Her window was the talk of the town. She loved playing the piano and spent many nights surrounded by friends and family who gathered around her while she played and they sang. The Variety Show “after parties” on State Street often lasted longer than the show performances themselves.
She spent most of her career as a bookkeeper. Her last job before retiring was with Sabin Metal. She could balance a checkbook with her eyes closed right down to the penny. She had a way with floral arrangements made from the many gardens cared for by her husband and best friend, Jim or “Rock” as she called him. They were married in November 1952 at the First Presbyterian Church in Caledonia, NY.
Doris had a wonderful sense of humor often laughing where anyone else would cry. She believed you caught more flies with honey than vinegar. She gently reminded her children and grandchildren of this often. She was stoic and strong, the beloved matriarch of her family. She will be greatly missed.
She is predeceased by her parents, as well as her brothers Richard “Itchy” McKay (Jenell Carnes) and Robert “Toey” McKay (Betty). Survived by her husband Jim, and her children Sam Rothrock (Julie Robedee), Mark (Lisa) Rothrock and Deb (Jim) Rosati, grandchildren Lindsey (Chase) Rothrock-Holcomb, Lauren (Corey) Timblin, Adam (Bobbi) Brennan, Matt (Merridith) Brennan, Cheryl (Adam) Purkat, James (Megan) Rosati, Matthew (Laura) Rosati, Kelley Rosati (fiancé Landis Clement), great grandchildren Landon Holcomb, Carter Brennan, Danica, Jeremy & Zachary Purkat, Mae and Jimmy Rosati, twins Charlotte & Giada Rosati and Harrison Rosati. Her ninth great grandchild is due in November.
Friends and family may call Friday April 16, 2021 from 5-7 pm at Alhart Funeral Home, 3068 West Main Street, Caledonia, NY. (50 % capacity and masks must be worn). Her funeral service will be held Saturday, April 17, 2021, 1 pm First Presbyterian Church 3080 Main St, Caledonia, NY 14423. Interment Mumford Cemetery immediately following church service.
