Obituary for Mary Elizabeth Heverin

Pomona California
Mary Elizabeth Heverin, dear daughter, sister, and aunt, died suddenly on May 25, in Pomona California, where she had resided for several years, at Pomona Healthcare Center.
Mary E (as we called her), was born on August 16, 1930, in Clifton Springs NY, eldest child of Mary Morrisey Heverin and Charles Bernard Heverin. She was ushered into this world by her grandfather, Dr. John Andrew Morrisey, and was both beautiful and bright.
Mary was a graduate of St. Therese Academy in Lakewood, Ohio, as well as St. Joseph University (formerly College of Mt. St. Joseph) in Cincinnati, Ohio. She received her MS in Sociology from Loyola University, Chicago.
After graduating from college, she worked for several years as a social worker, first in Cleveland, Ohio, and then in Buffalo, New York. She then moved to Chicago where she continued working while pursuing her Masters degree. From there, she went to California, employed by the Los Angeles diocese for many years. Mary was a devout Catholic.
She fell in love with the climate and the people of California. She celebrated diversity! Though loyal to her Irish heritage, she also had a tremendous affinity for the people she served, and their many ethnicities. She was generous to a fault, sharing what she had with those in need, and never expecting recompense.
Mary loved music, and enjoyed singing opera. She also enjoyed traveling, reading, socializing at The Irish-American Club, and trying her luck at OTB parlors.
In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her brother, Terence, sister, Alice “Pat” Mooney, brothers-in-law Paul Mooney and Michael Faul. She is survived by her sisters, Margaret Faul of Parkland, Florida, and Kathleen Sambora (David), of Brewster, New York, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mary is to be interred in St. Columba Cemetery, Caledonia, close to her parents and maternal grandparents.
Her Funeral Mass is planned for Friday,10 AM July 17, St. martin de porres parishSt Columba Church, 198 North Street, Caledonia, NY 14423.
Arrangements by Alhart Funeral Home, Caledonia
