Obituary for Elizabeth Anne "Anne" Merritt
Elizabeth Anne Merritt, 85 years young, resident of The Hurlbut in Rochester, NY died when she contracted the COVID-19 virus while in a lockdown, no visitor situation. Diagnosed on Wednesday, April 8th, she passed away on Monday, April 13th, 2020.
Anne, as she preferred to be called, is survived by her children Davy and MaryAnn Merritt of Caledonia, NY., George and Jocelyn Merritt of Bastrop, Texas, Andrew and Christine Merritt of Port Matilda, PA, and Sally and Jon Braciak of Buffalo, NY. Anne was predeceased by her husband George, and her daughter, Holly Merritt-Teed. She was also predeceased by both her sister Joyce (Randall) King, and her brother, George (Betsy) Davy.
Anne is survived by her 8 grandchildren, Jenea Rychlicki, Caledonia, Stash (Charlene) Merritt of Macedon, Melanie (Jason) Mullins of Bastrop, TX., Stephany (David) Moore of Alexandria, Virginia, Kristin (Christopher) Trewer of Mumford, Haylee Teed of Rochester, Katie Merritt of Harrisburg, PA and Sarah Merritt, Port Matilda, PA., and also 10 great grandchildren. She has nieces and nephews that she adored.
Anne was a passionate liberal who never missed a vote. She loved her cats, kids, grandkids, and great grands. She was a city girl who married a country boy and together they raised 5 children in a large brick home in the Town of Wheatland. She worked for the Rochester Telephone Company, Scottsville Pharmacy, and spent many years working for Jack Miller at Miller’s Sand and Gravel in Wheatland.
Anne enjoyed rescuing feral cats, bingo, her friends at the Wheatland Senior Center, lunches with her friends at the Alexandria Bay Senior Center and the fierce competition of dominoes at Gordon Court in Alex Bay. She touched many lives, would help anyone in need and was a faithful Episcopalian who looked forward to reuniting with her family when she passed. If you wish to honor her, in lieu of flowers, please do something nice for someone else. Her Memorial Service will be held 11 AM on Friday, July 23, 2021 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, North Street, Caledonia.
