Obituary for Mildred "Millie" Spicer
CALEDONIA - February 10, 2020, at age 74. Predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Seneca “Gene” Spicer. She is survived by her daughters Velvet Spicer (Brian Mazerolle) and Jean (Eric) Young. Two granddaughters, Zerica D’Alba, and Cenna Young. Brother Fred (Linda) VanNorman, sisters Blanche Carter, Nancy Scofield, Dorla Ellers. Many beloved nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Saturday 2-5 pm at the Alhart Funeral Home, 3068 W. Main St, Caledonia. Private service and interment. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc 435 E. Henrietta Rd., Rochester, NY, 14620.
Millie was a longtime employee of Caledonia-Mumford Central School and retired in 2010. A talented crafter, Millie spent some time as a seamstress and also worked in elder care. Her family was her passion and she loved nothing more than to spend the day picnicking or enjoying games with her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, children, grandchildren and anyone else who wanted to join in. Everyone who knew her--and often those who didn't--would get an earful, of anything and at any time. She loved to talk!
Millie will be remembered for her kindness and generosity. When her daughters were young she led Girl Scouts and each year coordinated a holiday gift-giving drive for charity. She was an avid reader and enjoyed puzzle books where she could use her love of the written word. Millie and Gene loved to dance and spent countless nights at discos, and later in life at home doing the stroll.
Millie cooked a mean chili, her stews were amazing and she was known for her barbeque ribs. She loved her seafood, drinking a cold beer and going out to eat.
She was a spitfire and stubborn as a bull. If she disagreed with you she let you know it. And it often ended with her storming off in a huff. But her kind, gentle heart would have her back in your good graces before long.
More recently, Millie suffered from a number of ailments, including kidney failure and dementia, and she grudgingly accepted help from her loving husband, daughter Velvet and son-in-law Brian. She was a trooper when it came to fighting those diseases. She surpassed doctors' expectations and did so with aplomb, living life as fully as she was able.
