Obituary for John Veldhuizen

CALEDONIA/LIVONIA - John peacefully passed away on Monday, September 22, 2019 at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Re-hab at the age of 95. He was born in the Netherlands immigrating to the U.S. in 1949 and settling in Caledonia. John farmed for many years before becoming a custodian at Cal-Mum. He later became head of buildings and grounds for the W. Irondequoit school district. After retirement he moved to Livonia and recently he and Willy moved back to Caledonia. John was an Underground Freedom Fighter during WWII for the Dutch Underground.

John is survived by his wife of 73 years, Wilhelmina and 4 children, Gerrie (Joe) Emery, Caledonia, Janie Veldhuizen, Penfield, Rita (Scott) Sadwick, W. Bloomfield, David (Linda) Veldhuizen, Livonia; 5 grandchildren, Karen Jake, Mark Emery, Cori Haskins, Caroline Veldhuizen, Jack Veldhuizen and 5 great-grandchildren.

Friends are welcome to call on Thursday from 1-2 PM with a Memorial Service to be held at 2 PM at the Alhart Funeral Home, 3068 W. Main St, Caledonia. Interment, Mumford Rural Cemetery.
