Obituary for Thomas Patrick Shaughnessy

On November 5th, 2018 at age 84, Thomas Patrick Shaughnessy passed away peacefully in Mount Morris, NY surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born to Thomas and Florence (Carney) Shaughnessy in Warsaw, NY on October 8th, 1934. He was raised in Caledonia, NY where he met his wife Phyllis and the two were married on August 20th, 1955. Together, they raised their family of six children in Caledonia. Tom retired from a fulfilling career with 35 years of service with Eastman Kodak Company. He lived the majority of his adult life with the challenges of Multiple Sclerosis. Despite this adversity, he emanated an air of dignity and persevered with unending grace. Tom and Phyllis enjoyed retirement in their home on Conesus Lake, spending many years with their family, grandchildren and dear friends. He will be greatly missed by all those who loved him, but especially by his wife and six children, who learned from him that faith, love and respect of others are the cornerstones of life.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Phyllis (Vokes); children Kathleen (Timothy) Wahl, Thomas (Pamela) Shaughnessy, Patrick (Deborah) Shaughnessy, Michael (Victoria) Shaughnessy, Patricia (Robert) States, and Daniel (Andrea) Shaughnessy; grandchildren Colleen (William), Patrick (Chelsea), Mary-Grace (Brendan), Charles, Heather (Luca), John, Benjamin, Avary (Kris), Samantha (Michael), Kristen, Nicole, Evan (Kiera), Erin, Emma, Molly, Julia, and Nadia; great-grandchildren Brian, Ryder, and Logan; brother-in-law James (Jean) Vokes; special relation Nick Crowley and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Florence (Carney) Shaughnessy, in-laws, Dalton and Elizabeth (Green) Voles; sisters and brothers-in-law Elizabeth and Harold Simm, Mary and Howard Bunn, Patricia and Gerald Pheilshifter, Ann and Robert Smith and Hazel Shaughnessy; nieces and nephews Florence Simm Naylor , Howard “Rusty” Bunn, Mary “Cathy” Parsons, David Bunn and Greg Legler.

Friends may call Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 1-4 P.M. at Alhart Funeral Home, 3068 W. Main St., Caledonia. His Funeral Mass will be held Monday,11 A.M. on November 12, 2018 at St. Martin De Porres Parish, St. Columba Church, North Street, Caledonia. Interment will be held at St. Columba Cemetery.
