On March 13, 2016 at age 83 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester following a heart attack. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Nene Yates; his son, Cliff Yates Jr..
Born and raised in Avon NY, the son of Irving and Gladys Yates.
In his early years, Cliff worked on the family farm. He graduated from Avon High. While in High School, he met wife Nene Hagen, and were married in 1955. He served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Sergeant. While in the Marine Corps he was part of the rifle team, and became an expert marksmen. After the Marine Corps. Cliff started his 30 year Law Enforcement career by joining the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department in Geneseo, NY.
He joined the Caledonia Police Department working his way up the ranks to the Chief of Police. He finished his Police career retiring from the Greece NY Police Department. He served in the patrol division, and also as an evidence technician. He attended the FBI academy, and served as an academy instructor for the Rochester Police Department.
Cliff was an avid golfer, and accomplished wood carver. He donated many of his carvings to charities. He loved fishing, and making people laugh. At his request, no service will be held.
