Caledonia: Peacefully at home as was his wishes with family at his side on January 27, 2014. Predeceased by parents, Emil J. and Rose W. Vogel; sister, Margaret J. Vogel; wife, Edith L. Slocum; and granddaughter, Courtney Rose Jones. Survived by daughter, Monica (David) Schillinger of Conesus; son, Joseph M. Jr. (Jennifer) Vogel of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; grandchildren and live-in caregiver, Samantha Jones, Karly Jones, Cam J. and Meagan H. Vogel; brother, John R. Vogel of Harrington, DE; sister-in-law, Mildred Chichester of Piffard; nearly brother, Thomas (Lynn) Tiede of Pavilion; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joe was a proud Veteran of the Korean War and served from 1951-1952. He was an Officer and life member of the Korean War Veterans of Monroe County and York Memorial VFW Post 634. Joe also worked as Payroll Master at the Retsof Salt Mine for over 40 years. In the true spirit of giving Joe has donated his body to science at the U of R Medical Center.
Friends are invited to attend his memorial mass Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Lucy's Church, 2770 Restof Ave., Retsof, NY. A celebration of Joseph's life will follow at the York Sportsman Club, 2883 Craig Road, Piffard. Memorials may be made to Livingston County Hospice, 2 County Campus, Mt. Morris, NY 14510.
