Obituary for Betty S. Pospesel (Springer)

Betty S. Pospesel

ROCHESTER - August 12, 1924 - December 7, 2017. Betty S. Pospesel, 93, a long-time resident of the Rochester, NY area, died at a local nursing home. Born in Virginia, Betty moved to Rochester to attend the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) where she studied photography and met her future husband. She worked for Eastman Kodak, co-managed a professional photography studio with her husband, worked part-time painting and hand-coloring professional portraits for a local photography studio, and finally returned to RIT where she worked as a staff assistant for the remainder of her professional career.

Betty was a highly talented artist who loved animals. She took frequent trips with friends to sketch and photograph landscapes. She was a long-time member of the Rochester Memorial Art Gallery who enjoyed oil painting, sculpture, pottery, ceramics and stained glass work. She also made and dressed her own porcelain dolls. Towards the end of her life, she was often described by her neighbors as “the tiny lady who walks the Great Dane dogs.”

She is survived by her daughters, Wendy Pospesel-Allen (David Allen, deceased) and Dianne Bills (Gerard Walter), and her three grand children, Garret Walter, Richard Pospesel, and Rachel Pospesel.
