She was born March 16, 1932 and passed January 27, 2017. Joan was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was predeceased by Richard R. Smith and her brother, Aaron Alaimo. She is survived by her brothers, Richard (Marge) Alaimo, Robert (Barbara) Alaimo; also survived by her children Blake Smith, Scott (Lynne) Smith, Jackie (Tracy) Tambe, Julie Smith Hine, Kathy (James Lynn) Smith; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Joan was a Registered Nurse, receiving her degree from Genesee Hospital School of Nursing. She continued her education at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Her most fulfilling career was as an alcoholism counselor for MainQuest Treatment Center in Rochester.
Joan enjoyed writing, gardening and nature. She had an unconditional love of family which she shared through her cooking and canning.
Friends and family are invited to attend her Funeral Service Friday, February 3, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Mumford First United Presbyterian Church, 893 George Street, Mumford. A private interment will be held at Mumford Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Mumford First United Presbyterian Church or your local food bank.
