Thomas Michael Simms, Sr., 67, of Walter Henderson Road, Cornelius, NC, passed away September 6, 2016 in Florence, SC.

He was born September 12, 1948 in Caledonia, NY to the late William Simms and the late Elizabeth Waters Simms.

Thomas was a graduate of the public schools of New York and Wilberforce University. He retired as Plant Manager from Honda Manufacturing in Florence, SC, where he also was the Coordinator for the United Negro College Fund and a member of the Governing Council of the Boy & Girls Club. Thomas was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and a lifetime member of Second Baptist Church in Mumford, NY.

Those left to cherish fond memories include his wife, Gloria Caldwell-Simms of the home, daughter, Keisha Simms of Charlotte, NC, two sons, Thomas Simms, II and Michael Russell both of Tampa, FL, twelve grandchildren; four sisters, Patricia Greenlea, Judith Simms, Marva Simms and Jackie Redman all of Caledonia, NY; two brothers, Gerald Simms of Yellow Springs, OH and Lewis Simms (Eileen) of Stoughton, MA, one uncle, Donald Charles Waters of Newark, NJ; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends may call Wednesday, September 14, 2016 from 11 AM to 1 PM with his service to follow at 1 PM at the Second Baptist Church, 957 George Street, Mumford. Interment will take place at Mumford Rural Cemetery. Arrangements by Alhart Funeral Home.
