Obituary for Lois Waldron (Swarts)

Waldron, Lois Swarts
Caledonia: Lois Swarts Waldron, aged 92, died on March 10, 2016, at home, surrounded by her loving family. Lois was born on January 9, 1924 in Campbell, New York, the daughter of the late Marion Swarts and Lucile Rowe Swarts. After graduating from Arkport High School in 1941, Lois attended Hornell Business School, where she obtained her degree. She was immediately hired by the War Department and moved to Washington DC, to work in the newly built Pentagon recording classified documents. Upon hearing the news of her second brother’s death overseas in WWII, Lois moved back to Caledonia. In 1954, she married Robert P. Waldron. They raised their children in Caledonia until 1975, when they moved to Cayuga Lake in Seneca Falls. In 1990, they moved to Clifton Springs and, in 2003, she and Bob moved back to Caledonia to be closer to family. Lois was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, she volunteered at hospitals in Seneca County, delivered Meals-on-Wheels, and was involved in various church activities. She also served as a docent at the Big Springs Museum in Caledonia. She was an avid reader and enjoyed a good crossword or jigsaw puzzle. Spending time with friends and family was always a joy for Lois.
Preceding her in death were her husband Bob; her siblings, Glen, Milton (Ike), and Sydney Swarts; and two children, Robert D. Waldron and Judith Johnston. She is survived by her sisters, Roberta Arnold and Barbara (Kenneth) Burmeister; and her children, Lynn (Arthur) Adams, Janet (Lawrence) Flynn, James (Dawn) Waldron, Rene (Mark) Kelly, Barbara (Dale) Cornish, Joan (Scott) Harvey, and Donald (Rachel) Waldron. Lois cherished her 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and her nieces and nephews. Her dear friend, Lynn Tiede, was a great support to Lois and her family during the latter years of Lois’s life.
A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, May 7th at 11:00 am, at the First Presbyterian Church in Caledonia, 3080 Main Street, Caledonia, NY. Those wishing to honor Lois’s memory may make a memorial contribution to FRAXA Research Foundation, 10 Prince Place, Suite 203, Newburyport, MA 01950 or Livingston County Department of Health Hospice Agency, 2 Murray Hill Drive, Mt. Morris, NY 14510.
